Marion - Lt. Col. James Travis Simpson, 90, born in Vance, MS on February 28, 1924, died August 15, 2014. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 68 years, Cathryn Louise (McNeil) Simpson; his children Linda Close (Ken) of Denton, TX, Mike Simpson of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Becky Rushing, of Marion, AR, and Jackie Blanchard (Byron) of Pocahontas AR; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Travis was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and one of the first pilots assigned to fly the C-5a. After retiring, he enjoyed camping with the Big River Bells group. He was a long-time member of the Walnut Baptist Church in Vance, MS. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 18 at Forest Hill South with visitation starting at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
