James Harry Sowell, 76, of Southaven, MS passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017. He was born on June 16, 1941 in Memphis, TN to Ira and Beulah Geesling Sowell. Harry spent much of his childhood in Greenleaf, MS. He moved back to Memphis in 1956 at the age of 14. In 1962 Harry, a young man of 20, was working at a service station at the corner of Lamar and Airways and a young girl of 20, named Glenda Breese, known to everyone as "Cookie" was working the soda fountain at Katz drug store just behind the station. Her aunt was late picking her up one night so she walked to the service station where she met Harry and he was so kind to call a cab for her. After that day, Harry would go into work early each day and go to the soda fountain to drink coke so he could talk to Cookie. They married June 16, 1962. Harry worked several jobs but his love was being a fine TV repairman, back when TV''s had tubes. He was a member of the Masonic Shriner organization. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: infant, Louise Sowell, Jewelene Dunlap, Mildred Millington, and brother Gene Sowell, half-sisters: Evelyn Bailey, Maggie Erwin, Sadie Emery, Vera Phillips and Patty Murphy; half-brothers: Jessie Sowell and Shelby Sowell and one great grandson, Caleb Pruitt. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Glenda "Cookie"Sowell; daughter, Glenda Sowell Parrot of Chino Valley, AZ and son, James Sowell, Jr. of Olive Branch, MS; three granddaughters: Carrie Pruitt (Wes) of Olive Branch, MS, Kim Gray (Jason) of Southaven, MS and Meghan Parrott of AZ; also three great- grand-daughters and one brother, Raiford Sowell of Olive Branch, MS. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am Tuesday, November 21 at Forest Hill South with service immediately following. Burial will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
