James William Tate, Sr., 88, passed away in Bartlett, TN on January 21, 2019.  He was retired from Strickland Transportation, and was the owner of Jamar Trucking.  Mr. Tate was a Master Mason who belonged to the Oakville Masonic Lodge #599.  He was also a member of the Memphis Al Chymia Shrine, where he served as Chaplain.  Mr. Tate was a licensed Amateur (Ham) Radio Operator (KG4DXX) who enjoyed spending time talking with his radio "family".  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dell Tate; brothers, F.A. Tate and Vollie D. Tate; and sister, Louise Castleberry.  Left to honor and cherish his memory are his children:  Susan Schafer (Dennis) of Bartlett, TN, James W. Tate, Jr (Lori) of Hornbeak, TN, and Jeffery T. Tate (Brenda) of Oakland, TN; and sister, Latance Hankins of Tyler, TX.  Mr. Tate had been blessed with 7 grandchildren:  Christopher James Schafer (Julie), Ashley Romero Calvin (Steven), Robert Dennis Schafer, Curtis Lee Tate (Mackenzie), James William Tate III (Mindy), Brandon Lee Tate, and Matthew Alexander Carter; 8 great grandchildren:  Kaylee Romero, Tate Romero, Mallory Calvin, Breanna Calvin, Samantha Calvin, Lane Tate, Carson Kukuk and Colton Kukuk.  Visitation with his family will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with his funeral service on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home, East on Whitten Road.  901-382-1000.  The family would like to extend their gratitude for all of the prayers and condolences they have received during this difficult time.
