Obituary

CW5 James R. Wood, retired, 68, of Cordova, TN passed away on April10, 2020.

Mr. Wood was known by, Chief, Mr. Wood, James, Bobby, Jim or My Gem.

He is survived by his wife, Portia; two sisters, Jane Haines and Susan May; three sons, James Ashley, Johnathan Louis and Mathew Garrett, all of whom achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during his 50 plus years hike through scouting. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, whom are the light of his life.

CW5 Wood served his country with pride and distinction for over 40 years, having been drafted in the last draft. He served his country in peace time and in war, once again, being presented a key to the city by Mayor Hackett for being the last Shelby Countian to return home.

James was a boy scout as a young man and has led many more young boys to the values of scouting, including being a girl scout member for his granddaughter and  marrying a girl who he met at one of her meetings 49 years ago.  His scouting career spanned 50+ years with numerous awards.

Forest Hill Funeral Home East has been entrusted with his care.  He will be laid to rest in the United States Veterans Cemetery on Forest Hill Irene in Memphis, TN on April 22, 2020.
