Obituary

Jane Ellen Gross Freeman went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2020 at Methodist North Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.  She was preceded in death by her parents Richard Henry Gross and Catherine McNew Gross.  She is survived by her daughter Georgia "Jane" Freeman Williams (Quentin) of Blountville, TN, cousins Betty Kanyon of Springfield, MO, Cathy McNew Garland (Sid) of Mt. Juliet, TN, Carol McNew Yarberry (Bill) of Kingwood, TX, and Claudia McNew Smith (Gary) of Hermitage, TN.
Jane was born in New Orleans, LA on January 8, 1946.  She moved to Bartlett, TN in 1977 and earned an Associate's Degree from State Technical Institute at Memphis.  She worked as an administrative assistant for Rhodes College and the Memphis Police Department and eventually retired from Walmart.
She loved animals, particularly cats, and enjoyed caring for children.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bartlett.  The late Margaret Suddard of that church introduced her to a group of ladies who met at the home of Claudia Gay on Sundays and included  BJ Davis, Jean Jones, Betty, Garrett, Doris Cardinal, Adella Honnen, and Jane Qualls.  She was also active in a women's Bible study group that also included Jane Qualls, Jane Anne Haggard, and Jill Young.
Her wonderful neighbors and others for whom she expressed gratitude include Amy Frechette, Margy Harvill, Bill Brown, Cristina Webster, Bud Totty, and Blake Baskin.  She was blessed to have the friendship of her oldest and dearest friend, Alma Holley of Metairie, LA.
The family wishes to thank Methodist Hospital Hospice and the nurses, doctors, and staff of Methodist Hospital for Mrs. Freeman's care in her final days.
