Janice Ruth Burgess, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in New Braunfels, Texas, on March 11, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on September 10, 1934, in Malden, Massachusetts, Janice lived a rich and purposeful life shaped by family, faith, service, and a lifelong love of learning.

Janice grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts before moving with her family to Memphis, Tennessee during her high school years—a city that would become her lifelong home. In 1955, she married the love of her life, Earl Burgess, and together they raised their two children, Paul and Janice, creating a home filled with love, laughter, and strong values.

After dedicating her early years to her family, Janice pursued her passion for education. She earned her Master's Degree from Memphis State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and went on to teach in the Memphis Public Schools. Her career later led her to Briarcrest Christian School, where she played an instrumental role in shaping it's education program. Her leadership, vision, and unwavering dedication ultimately led her to serve as principal before her retirement. Her impact on generations of students and educators remains an enduring legacy.

Janice was known for her sharp mind, quick wit, and remarkable ability to bring order, energy, and joy to any situation. She was the dependable "do-er" who always stepped forward, whether organizing events, supporting friends, or guiding others with wisdom and grace. Her friendships were many, deep, and treasured.

Janice is survived by her two children, five grandchildren, and four great‑grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and joy to her life. She will be deeply and dearly missed.
