Janice (Jan) Vivian Cardwell, age 83 , passed away peacefully on December 29 th in Destin, Florida. She was born August 12, 1938 in Folsom , West Virginia . She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 62 years , Leland (Lee) Pearson Cardwell . Jan also leaves behind their son Bart Cardwell of Charleston, SC ; one grandson , John Cardwell and wife Kristi of Santa Rosa Beach, FL ; and two great-grandchildren , Ashlyn and Pearson.
She graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in Buckhannon, West Virginia and began working for the State Department in Washington, DC . It is there where she met her Lee who was in the U nited States Marine Corps. She and Lee raised their three children primarily in Memphis, Tennessee and she retired as a marketing coordinator f or the Nike C orporation. For many years Jan and Lee enjoyed spending time in Florida and decided to make it their permanent residence last year.
Jan had a refreshing outlook on life ; a woman without a deceptive nature; had compassion for others; honest in all her dealings; enjoyed traveling; and accomplished anything she truly desired. She loved spending time with her family and friends. S he was a strong Christian woman and very active in her church and small groups with New Hope Christian Church in Bartlett, Tennessee.
She is preceded in death by her parent s John William and Ethel Ruth Moore Conaway , her sister Patricia Janiszewski and brother Glen Conaway , and two sons, Kir k Cardwell (1984) and Bret Cardwell (2010).
Memorial service will be held at Forest Hill Memorial Park, 2240 Whitten R d., Memphis, TN on January 8 th with vi sitation at 9:00am and services to follow at 10:00am . Any memorial donations would be requested for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation; 55 Broadway, Suite 302, New York, New York 10006 in memory of their son, Bret or to the charity of the donor s choice.
