Jean H. Thomas

March 25, 1936 - June 22, 2025

Jean Thomas, at the age of 89 years old, passed away at her home in Olive Branch, MS on June 22nd, 2025. She was born on March 25, 1936 to Newell and Edna Hadaway in Memphis, TN.

Jean graduated from Whitehaven High School and worked as a school secretary at Winchester Elementary School for many years. She was a member of Longstreet Methodist Church in Memphis, TN. Chester and Jean Thomas were married in 1952 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage until Chester's death in 2013. Jean, affectionately known as "Mimaw" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, baking cakes, reading John Grisham novels, and spending time with her family and friends.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Becky Gwyn; grandchildren, Gary (Stacey) Gwyn, Kevin (Mandy) Gwyn, Laurie (Justin) Brennan, and Brian (Melinda) Thomas, and eleven great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Skyler Gwyn, Kinsley, Colby, and Hadley Brennan, Ava and Hayley Gwyn, Holt and Hollis Thomas, and Harry and Ollie Thomas.

Jean was preceded in death by her father, Newell Hadaway; mother, Edna Hadaway; brother, Conrad Hadaway; husband, Chester Thomas; son, Michael Thomas; daughter-in-law, Terry Thomas; son-in-law, Phil Gwyn; grandson, Beau Thomas.

A graveside memorial service will be held on 06/28/2025 at 1:00 PM at Forest Hill South Cemetery, located at 2545 E. Holmes Rd. Memphis, TN 38118.
