Jessie Florence
Lewis
May 7, 1932 – March 14, 2021
Jessie Florence Lewis was born in Memphis, TN on May 7, 1932 to the late Albert Lester and Mary Turner. Being vibrant, industrious, and adventurous, she moved to Milwaukee, WI as a young woman. There she expanded upon her Christian upbringing and accepted, obeyed, and began to spread the Oneness, Pentecostal, Apostolic message. Having become a "field" missionary, she returned to Memphis, joining in fellowship with the Lighthouse Church, and eventually joining in matrimony on Nov 21, 1969 to Roy Lewis. To this union, she gave birth to her only child, a son.
"Missionary" or "Sister" Lewis, as she was often affectionately and respectfully called, developed a real love for "old" people and started a senior citizen care home. While a businesswoman, she obtained her GED and an Associate Degree in Business. On Aug 26, 2001, after years of Christian association and friendship, she finally, officially called (in her words) "The Honorable Apostle Perry Maples" her pastor and joined the Apostolic Deliverance Temple Church, where she faithfully labored in divers ministry endeavors and remained a member up until her decease. Throughout her lifetime, Missionary worked with and/or helped start several churches. A lover of hospitality, she boarded evangelists, dabbled in gospel music production, and hosted MANY Sunday dinners [can I get an "Amen"].
The Lord God saw fit the morning of Sun, Mar 14, 2021 to transition her to her eternal home. She will always be remembered and loved.
To cherish her memory, she leaves behind a daughter-in-law Tonya Lewis; 4 granddaughters Cierra Garner, Jessica, Angeline, and Anna Lewis. Daughters Brenda Henry and Beverly Lewis. Close friends Royal Redmond, Essie McCollough, Luphelia Maples; god daughters Bettie Carter and Jessie Redmond-Sellers. Special nieces Wilma McGhee, Grace Gillespie, Earnestine Thornton, Birdie Boyd, Annette Gladney. Special nephews Bernard Dotson and Clinton Jones, and a host of other (great) nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, as well as, a son Jonathan.
