Jewel T Witt (Hutchinson), age 87, died on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Baptist Hospital East.  Born in 1931, she grew up on a farm in Grenada, Mississippi with four brothers and five sisters.  All four of her brothers were in WWII at the same time leaving Jewel alone to help her dad do many things around the farm often delegated to her brothers. She graduated from Grenada High School, married Harmon Lester (Sonny) Hutchinson, and moved to Memphis.  She continued her education by completing the Certified Professional Secretarial program at Memphis State. Jewel worked for the Ford Motor Company, Tractor Division for 26 years, spending 12 years in the Atlanta, GA office .  After retiring from Ford, she began working at Emory University in the Bone Marrow Transplant Office. In 1993, she moved back to Memphis and joined Ridgeway Baptist Church. There she met and married Ken Witt in 1994. They were married for 10 years until his death. At Ridgeway, she was a member of the Faith Class taught by Lewis Pittman where her classmates became her extended family. She accepted Christ as her Savior at Trinity Baptist Church in Memphis.  Her relationship with Christ was real and she loved sharing her faith with others.  As she had opportunities, she went on mission trips. She loved working in the flower garden, sewing, watercolor painting, and reading. She leaves behind a beloved sister, Hazel VanCleave, three children, Sherry Diane Exley, Harmon Lester Hutchinson, Jr. (Chris) and Lisa Hutchinson Terry (Johnie); 10 grandchildren:  Christine Kolb Wright (Sterling), Paul A Kolb, Shannon Maxwell (Eric), Ashley Hutchinson Bradshaw (Sam), Jennifer McEwen (Adam), Courtney Young (Ben), Richard Terry (Stefi), Ryan Terry, Kristina Terry (Devonte), and Lauren Terry; 13 great-grandchildren:  Garrett Maxwell, Amber Donahue (Cody), Dustin Kolb, Stella Bradshaw, Nora Bradshaw, Kaila McEwen, Eli McEwen, Evan Edwards, Alexis Edwards, Yunek Merrifield, Michael Young, James Young, and Malachi Thomas; 2 great, great-grandchildren Kaylyn and Dawson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Ridgeway Baptist Church, 2500 Ridgeway Avenue, Memphis with Rev. Ashley Ray officiating.  The family will greet friends at the church on Friday from 11:30 until the time of service. Burial will be at Forest Hill Funeral Home, East on Whitten Road. The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Crossroads Hospice and Ridgeway Baptist Church for their attentiveness and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jewel's name to the American Cancer Society or Ridgeway Baptist Church.
