IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jewell W.
Gatewood
September 23, 1961 – November 18, 2025
Jewell Gatewood, beloved friend, entrepreneur, and cancer survivor, passed away leaving behind a legacy of resilience, creativity, and compassion.
Jewell was the proud founder and owner of Out of the Chaos – Creative Organizers, a locally owned business that reflected her vision of bringing order and peace to homes and workplaces. Through her company, she offered residential and business organizing services, helping families and professionals alike create systems to manage paper clutter, maximize space, and reclaim time. Her mantra was simple yet profound: Organize your storage, your space, your possessions, your paper, your projects.
Her professional journey was marked by dedication and excellence. Jewell served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman and President of Premier Transportation of Memphis, where she kept two busy executives on track while producing marketing materials and newsletters. She also worked as Office Manager at Aesculap, Assistant at SBC (AT&T), and Executive Assistant at Insituform Technologies. Her career reflected her gift for organization, foresight, and care. Jewell was a Certified Professional Organizer (CPO) through the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals, and she generously shared her expertise with her community.
But Jewell's story was not only one of professional success—it was also one of courage. Nearing her 61st birthday, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a disease she initially believed to be a death sentence. With faith and determination, she placed her trust in Dr. Brad Somer and the team at West Cancer Center. Through months of chemotherapy, a successful Whipple procedure, and continued treatment, Jewell endured with grace and strength. She often spoke of the hope and care she received from West, crediting them with saving her life. Her journey became a testament to perseverance, faith, and the power of compassionate medical care.
Jewell was not only a survivor—she was an inspiration. She encouraged others beginning their cancer journey to trust their doctors, nurses, and care teams, reminding them that they were not alone. Her words and example continue to uplift those facing similar battles.
Beyond her career and health journey, Jewell was deeply involved in her community. She was a member of Lindenwood Christian Church, a supporter of the Streetdog Foundation, and an active participant in events such as the Civitan Club Annual 5K and the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk. She was also a proud alumna of the University of Memphis, where she studied Business Administration and Management.
Jewell will be remembered for her warmth, her faith, and her ability to bring order to chaos—whether in a cluttered office, a family home, or in the face of life's greatest challenges. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, service, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit endures in every life she touched, every space she transformed, and every survivor who finds hope in her story.
