Jo Etta Sixsmith Clark, a beloved pillar of her community, peacefully departed this world on February 19, 2024, in Jonesboro, Arkansas surrounded by family. Born on May 14, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, Jo Etta's journey was marked by a profound dedication to education, faith, and the pursuit of meaningful connections.


Jo Etta's passion for teaching spanned four decades, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives. Her tenure, predominantly at Millington Central High School, where she once walked the halls as a proud alumna, was characterized by unwavering commitment and boundless compassion. She instilled in her students not only academic knowledge but also values of kindness, resilience, and integrity.


In her youth, Jo Etta found solace and exhilaration in horse-riding and barrel racing, hobbies that spoke to her adventurous spirit and love for nature's beauty. Yet, her truest passion lay in her unwavering faith. Jo Etta's devout relationship with the Lord was the cornerstone of her life, radiating through every interaction and endeavor. A fervent evangelist, she shared the gospel with unwavering zeal, touching hearts and souls wherever she went.


Jo Etta possessed a remarkable gift for conversation, her words flowing effortlessly and leaving an enduring impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Revered as a prayer warrior, she offered solace and strength to those in need, embodying the true essence of compassion and empathy.


She is preceded in death by her much-cherished parents, Joseph William Sixsmith and Arrabelle Bettis Sixsmith, and her sister, Georgia Ann Chandler. Jo Etta's legacy lives on through her two nieces, her four great-nephews, and a host of cousins, and friends each enriched by her love and wisdom.

In remembrance of Jo Etta's extraordinary life, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Bellevue Baptist Church or Love Worth Finding Ministries in lieu of flowers.

Visitation to honor Jo Etta's life will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park - Midtown, located at 1661 S. Elvis Presley Blvd., Memphis, TN 38106, beginning at 9am on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Friends, family, and acquaintances are invited to pay their respects and share cherished memories of a remarkable woman whose presence touched so many lives.


Following the visitation, a graveside service will commence at 10am, providing an opportunity for loved ones to gather once more in solemn remembrance and celebration of Jo Etta's enduring legacy.
