Obituary

Joan Marie (Lambert) Campbell, long-time resident of Memphis, Tennessee, born on July 18, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph Louis Lambert and the late Mary Laura (Cawley) Lambert, passed away at age 78 on October 17, 2018 at Methodist Hospital Hospice in Germantown, Tennessee. She was surrounded by her family and friends.

Joan was passionate about her faith and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, Tennessee for more than 40 years.  During that time she served as a lector and minister of Holy Communion for many years, and she participated in multiple parish groups until the last few years of her life made it difficult for her to leave her home. Joan was passionate about her family.  She sacrificed a great deal for her six children, and even before she became a licensed nurse, she provided medical support to her husband and her mother-in-law in her home.

She loved to laugh, and always enjoyed a good joke or witty story.  She wore a variety of hats in her professional life, including fashion designer (making hair accessories), makeup artist (selling cosmetics for MaryKay), real estate professional, salesperson, and licensed practical nurse.

Joan enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, and ice cream.  She spoke fluent French (for a handful of words) and could always extol the virtues of wheat germ supplementation.  She will be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes, her easy laugh and her warm heart.

Joan was married to the late Wayne Joseph Campbell Sr. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rosemary Jaworski and Bonnie Sullivan, her brother Gerard Lambert, and her grandchild, John Patrick (Jack) Campbell Jr.  Joan is survived by her sons, Edward Joseph [Carol], John Patrick [Jenny], Mathew William, and Wayne Joseph Jr.; daughters, Kathleen Marie [Guennadi Maslov] and Mary Francis [Matthew Harris]; brothers James, Art, Thomas, and Phil; sisters Patricia and Susan; and grandchildren, Edward Joseph Jr., James Bennett, Josephine (Posy) Katherine, Evelyn Marie, Elizabeth Grace, and John Gregory Hughey. Donations in Joan's name to Dorothy Day House Memphis and St. Vincent De Paul - St. Ann Conference are welcome and appreciated. Friends and family members may attend the visitation on Sunday, October 21 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis. Following that, there will be a rosary service from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 6529 Stage Road, Bartlett, Tennessee, on October 22 at 10:00 a.m.  The burial will be private.
