IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joanne M.
Wingo
May 23, 1932 – April 1, 2025
Joanne M Wingo passed away on April 1,2025 to be with her Lord at the age of 92 years. She was born in Sharon, Tennessee, Weakley County to Hubert and Mary Morris.
She peacefully left this life to be with her loving husband of more than fifty years, James Billy Wingo. She is also preceded in death by her sisters Patricia Bradberry and Lena Mae Hurst.
She is survived by two children; daughter, Maribeth Lucas (Wingo) of Collierville, Tennessee and son, James B. Wingo, Jr of Bartlett, Tennessee. But more importantly, she was a devoted and loving grandmother to her five grandchildren; Holly Odom (Lucas), Lindsay Walsh (Lucas), Heather Bentley (Wingo), Jonathan Wingo, and Paul Wingo. She also loved having eight great grandchildren.
Joanne was an integral and resilient part of her family until her final days. Her sassy humor, kindness, and love toward her family will be deeply missed. She abundantly gave of her love, time, and treasure.
After two years of living in Milan, Tennessee, Joanne and Billy moved to Memphis, Tennessee to find a home for them and their two children. While Billy found a work home at Plough, Inc, Joanne created a loving home for the family. She often volunteered for school activities and took on the task of being a Den mother for her son's BoyScout troop. In her children's teenage years, she decided to learn the Credit Union business and found her way to the Memphis VA hospital Credit Union as one of the customer reps. But as her children's families grew, she left work and became her best role as Grandmother. She and Billy provided fun events for the grandchildren involving Fourth of July fireworks with homemade banana ice cream, backyard Easter egg hunts, Sunday birthday parties, and countless homemade family dinners.
Besides the focus on the grandchildren, she and Billy enjoyed doing things together. She and Billy greatly enjoyed attending Memphis State basketball games and made out of town trips to support the Tigers. They also enjoyed performances at Theater Of Memphis. They both were avid readers of current events and history.
