Joe Clifton McMurtrey, 93, died Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the Veteran's Home in Oxford, MS.  He was born August 15, 1925.  Joe was a proud WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy.  He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Merel.  He leaves behind his son, Gary McMurtrey; daughter, Robin Ainsworth (Willie) and daughter, Kem Wesson (Bryan); five grandchildren, Andi Collins, Kristin Meador, Ryan Ainsworth, Eric Ainsworth, Heath Wesson; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Hannah, Colton, Gibson, Kaileigh, Braxton, Lane, Emery and Talen and one great great granddaughter, Lyla.   Joe loved watching Westerns, drinking coffee, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and golfing. Family and friends will gather to share memories 12-2 pm, Saturday, August 3, 2019, followed by funeral services at 2 pm.  Both at Forest Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park-Midtown  (901) 775-0310   Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery South.
