John Marvin
Bondurant
Dec 10, 1949 — May 27, 2022
John Marvin Bondurant passed away on May 27, 2022, surrounded by loved ones at his home in Bartlett, TN. He lived a full life for 72 years, before ending in a courageous battle with acute leukemia.
Two days prior, he and Phyllis celebrated their 48 th wedding anniversary. John was the proud dad to two great sons, Brad and Ben (Chalise). John's memory will also be cherished by siblings David (Lora Edene) and Gail Bondurant (Tom) Nichols, grandchildren Brooklyn (12), Annalise (9), and Elliot (7), who brought him great joy, and extended family and friends.
John was born December 10, 1949, to Jim and Ernestine Bondurant, who along with brother Dan, preceded him in death. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps, where he served for six years as an aircraft control dispatcher. He then began his 29 year career with the Memphis Fire Department, where he retired as a Division Chief. After that, he spent time working for FEMA in disaster relief efforts.
He was a longtime member of Waypoint Baptist church, where he enjoyed serving with the various gifts God gave him. Throughout all his years, John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed God's creation however he could, whether that be from a deer stand, a fishing boat, or watching out a window.
He was a devoted, servant-hearted husband, dad, "Pop," and friend to many. He had a big smile and big heart, overflowing with contentment and joy. His faith in Christ filled him with peace, hope, and gratitude, even in his sickness.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2022, from 4:30-7:00pm and the funeral service will be Friday, June 3, 2022, at 10:00am. Both will be held at Waypoint Baptist, 5586 Stage Rd, Bartlett TN, 38134.
