John Joseph Brannon, 81, born in Memphis on August 26, 1933 to the late Gerald P. and Helen Brannon died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 29, 2015. He was a graduate of Catholic High for Boys, received his Bachelor Degree from St. Edward''s University in Austin, TX and Master Degree from Memphis State University. Mr. Brannon later returned to Catholic High as a teacher before moving to State Technical Institute as the Administrator of Student Aid, finishing his career with the Shelby County Assessors Office. He was a US Navy veteran, past president of the Irish Society, and a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Brannon was a devout Roman Catholic, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Kay Brannon; children, Joe (Trina), Jim (Jennifer), John (Shebbie), Catherine Chubb (Mark); ten grandchildren, Patrick, Sarah, Jack, Jamie, Charlie, Drake, Morgan, Braden, Brannon, Cate; and four step grandchildren, Matt, Jessy, Maddie and Colin. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 2 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home with Rosary service following. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 3 at St. Michael''s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Forest Hill East Cemetery. The family request memorials be made to Food For the Poor or a charity of your choice.
