John "Johnny" Butts, cherished brother, father, grandfather and friend to many, left for his next great quest on March 13, 2013. He was born to William and Hazel Butts in San Bernardino, California in July 1930. Raised there and in Del Mar, he attended Palomar College before entering the Army, where he served in Munich. After an honorable discharge he moved to Los Angeles County. He completed his bachelor''s degree and began to work for the County of Los Angeles as a probation officer. More than three decades and countless stories later, he retired to a life of leisure and travel. He was known for always helping his friends, and looking for the next great adventure. He is preceded in death by the one great love of his life, Dorothy Bobbitt Butts from Memphis Tennessee and half brother Arthur. He is survived by his brother Tom; daughter Dee; stepchildren Clyde, Cheri, Karen, Blake; cousins Ruth Ann, Roberta, Shannon, and Virginia; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Services and interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery east on Friday April 5 at 2 p.m. in Memphis Tennessee. A Celebration of Life will be held in Los Angeles later in the month. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
