Obituary

John P. Emerson, age 93, of Cordova, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025. He was born on August 22, 1931, in Lodi, Mississippi, and spent most of his life in Memphis, TN.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, John worked as an insurance auditor before founding his own business, P&L Bookkeeping and Tax Service. He found great joy in his work—though perhaps even more in the conversations he shared with his clients.

A devoted Christian, John served as a deacon and long-time member of Parkway Village Baptist Church and later joined Faith Baptist Church in Bartlett.

John was known for his humor, warmth, and deep love for his family. He never missed an opportunity to lift someone's spirits, offer advice, or lend a helping hand. He loved telling stories from his upbringing in Lodi and cherished time spent with loved ones. A true family man—funny, caring, and full of life—his kindness and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Betty Joan Emerson; his children: Paul (Milena) Emerson, Richard (Kathy) Emerson, and Lisa Emerson; five grandchildren: Gabriella Emerson, John Tibbits, Kristen Hiller, Katelyn Canup, and Will Emerson; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his cherished son, David Michael Emerson.

John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter, faith, kindness, and family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." – Isaiah 40:31
