John Estes "Red" Barnett, Sr., passed away June 9, 2012 at Methodist Hospice House after a lengthy illness. John was born March 29, 1935 in Nashville, but moved to Memphis where he attended Frayser High School. He was an active member of Decatur Trinity Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and was always ready to accept any task asked of him. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and retired after 34 years of service from the Memphis Fire Department as Battalion Chief. Afterwards, he enjoyed working as a courier for Symbion-Moga for 12 years. John was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Wagenstein and his brother, Charles Barnett. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Carolyn "Ricky" Barnett; one son, John Estes Barnett, Jr.; a grandson, Jay Barnett (Amy); a granddaughter, Mandy Biggs (Robert); a great-granddaughter, Grayson Biggs and great-grandson, expected in July, Robert Myers Biggs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Decatur Trintiy Christian Church.
