IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John David
Floyd
September 28, 1934 – November 18, 2025
Dr. John David Floyd passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at the age of 91. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Army veteran, and servant of God, he lived a life marked by conviction and unwavering faith.
Born on September 28, 1934, Dr. Floyd dedicated his life to serving the Lord and sharing the gospel around the world. He pastored churches across the United States before spending many years as a missionary in the Philippines, pouring his heart into ministry, teaching, and the communities he loved so deeply. He joined Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary as a missiology professor and later served as Administrative Vice President, shaping and mentoring generations of ministry leaders.
He went on to serve as the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board's Area Director for Eastern Europe and later as Chairman of the Board of Trustees—roles in which his leadership, humility, and global vision left a profound and enduring impact.
Beyond ministry, Dr. Floyd was an avid reader and lifelong Bible scholar who delighted in learning. He was just as comfortable on a motorcycle as he was behind a pulpit. He enjoyed Razorback football, tennis, and golf, but nothing brought him more joy than time spent with the people he loved most. He is survived by his wife, Shirley G Floyd; his two children and their spouses; his four granddaughters and their spouses; and six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Michael Loren Trammell, and his wife, Pamela Gail. He was preceded in death by his sister and by his first wife, Helen Nutt Floyd.
To his family, he was "Papa" or "Uncle John" — wise, steadfast, and endlessly loving. To the many he led, taught, and ministered to around the world, he was a faithful shepherd and a servant of Christ. He shared the gospel up until his final day on earth, and his legacy endures in the lives he touched, the leaders he developed, and the generations that follow.
