John T.
Gravatt
Jun 18, 1924 — May 25, 2023
John T. Gravatt, born in Paragould, Arkansas on June 18, 1924, passed away on May 25, 2023 at the age of 98.
J.T. was raised in a wonderful loving home. He was saved and baptized at the age of twelve at the old Yale Baptist Church. He attended and graduated with the love of his life from Whitehaven High School. They married soon after and he went off to war in the Army. After World War II, he worked for 42 years for the Southern Railroad. He began as a clerk and through the years he was promoted to Yardmaster and then to Trainmaster.
He raised four boys that he loved dearly. He led them to become Christians early in life, good husbands and family men. He taught them how to be men. He set the best example for his boys and many others as well.
He along with his wife were charter members of the Park Ave. Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and Baseball coach for many years. Also, he was a member of Wells Station Baptist, Gracewood Baptist and Big Creek Baptist. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus and his precious wife, and his family!
J.T. is survived by three sons, Ernest Dale and Judy, John Glen and Emily, and Paul Duane and Christy; a daughter in law, Audrey Dale; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
J.T. was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Kitty Reaves Gravatt; his loving wife of 79 years, Ernestine Gravatt; a son, Doyle Jay Gravatt; a great grandson, Jacob Pegram; four sisters, Nina, Mathel, Lavern, and Betty; as well as two brothers, Bobby and Jerry.
