Obituary

John Wendle Ingle, age 82, met Jesus face to face on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He was born on July 29, 1940 to John Ledford and Carrie Price Ingle in Hornsby, Tennessee.

He spent his younger years in Dyess, Arkansas before relocating to Memphis after graduating from Dyess High School. He was employed as a technical writer and trainer at Kimberly Clark Corporation before retiring after 34 years. He served in the US Army from 1963-1969 including a deployment to Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a member of The American Legion in New Albany, MS. John was a long-time member of Range Hills Baptist Church while in Memphis, serving as an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher. After retirement, he moved to New Albany, MS, and immediately found a home church at Fredonia Baptist Church where he continued to serve.
John was a long-time Gideon. He was passionate about spreading God's Word through Bible distribution throughout the community.
His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and "picking on everybody." He enjoyed taking care of his farm and riding his John Deere tractor. He found his pond his place of peace. Upon retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Martha, to all 48 contiguous states and Canada.


Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Martha Benefield Ingle; four daughters, Melinda Gardner (Jim), Wendy Faulkner (Terry), Holly Vailes (Stephen), and Beverly Dunlap (Billy); eight grandsons, James Gardner (Caroline), John David Gardner (Elizabeth), Shelby Faulkner,
Jonathan Faulkner, Daniel Vailes, Luke Vailes, Will Dunlap (Haley), Sam Dunlap; and two great- grandsons, Jed Gardner and Emmett Gardner. He also leaves one sister, Bonnie Vaughn along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.


He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Maxine Wallace, Daphine Mathis, Gladie Woosley, Sadie Mathis, and two brothers, Wilford Ingle and Preston Ingle.


Services will be held Monday, July 24, 2023, at 5:00 pm at Forest Hill East Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. A visitation for family and friends will be held two hours prior to the service from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.


The family requests that any memorials be made to The Gideons International or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
