John G. (Jay) Parker, Jr., 87, of Memphis, TN passed away peacefully on Monday, July 30, 2012. Jay is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Arnett Parker; his daughter, Jan Clark of Marion, AR and son, Jud Parker of Oakland, TN. Jay also has 4 loving grandchildren; Brandon Clark, Sarah Clark, John Thomas Parker, and Annie Parker. He is also survived by his brother, Floyd (Rusty) Parker of Florence, AL. Jay was born in Tuscaloosa, AL February 1, 1925 and grew up in Florence, AL, graduating from Coffee High School. After graduating from Harris Advertising Art School in Nashville, TN he became Art Director at both Memphis Engraving Company and Eastex Packaging Company during his 40 year professional career. Highly regarded for his artistic design ability he won numerous, coveted awards in the packaging industry. One of his most recognizable designs he created was the world renowned Sun Record Label. Jay accepted Jesus as his personal savior in 1943 and has been a faithful and energetic servant ever since. He served as an Elder at Central Church as well as a Bible Study and Sunday School teacher and a High School Counselor. Jay is currently a member of Grace Evangelical Church in Germantown, TN. Services for Jay will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 2 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Rd., Memphis, TN, with family receiving friends beginning at noon. The family requests memorials be sent to Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center, 1961 S. Houston Levee Rd., Collierville, TN, 38017, in his name, to further the wonderful, loving work they provide to so many.
