John "Pete" Farris, 87, passed away peacefully at his Olive Branch Home on September 26, 2021.
Pete was born on July 10, 1934 in Whitehaven, TN and was the youngest of the seven children of Rosco (James) and Lottie Farris, growing up on the nearby family dairy farm.
Pete fought bravely for our country, serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army and serving overseas in both Korea and Germany over his six year term, and meeting his first wife, Lorraine Street.
After his years of service, Pete returned with his young family to Southaven, MS, where he continued to serve his country in his role at the US Postal Service, Pete never met a stranger, and often welcomed others into his home, whether it was a brother, cousin, or just someone down on their luck. His kindness and generosity were values he passed on to his children.
Pete retired from the US Postal Service in 1989 before marrying his second wife, Linda Sue Farris and settling down in Horn Lake, MS, where he enjoyed retirement to the fullest. He embraced the simple pleasures of life - a cold beer, a round of golf, and a good western movie.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Linda Sue, sister Helen (Mike) Leal, son Gary (Julie) Farris, stepson Randy (Michelle) Prine, stepdaughters Melinda Taylor and Snookie Farris, grandchildren Pete Farris, Sam Farris, Ashley Mueller, Courtney Pennington, Hollie Prine, and Max Prine, and a number of great-grandchildren. Pete was predeceased by his parents, siblings Rosco Jr., Earnest, Buford, Irene, and Snookie, his first wife Lorraine, and sons, Bubba and Terry.
Pete will be honored in a private graveside service at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Hemophilia Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
