Obituary

John "Bud" Moffitt, 92, passed away on May 3, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Olgie Colleen Holley Moffitt, his two sons John Larry Moffitt (Karen) and Jerry Brent Moffitt and one daughter Teresa Moffitt Carroll (Tim). He also leaves behind five grandchildren - Mindy Moffitt Walker (Sam), Melanie Moffitt Danner (Andy), Keith Moffitt (Nikki), Brandon Carroll (Michalla),  and Madison Carroll Forsythe (K.D.). He leaves behind nine great grandchildren - Hayden Danner, Matthew Moffitt, Preston Jones, Hendrix Walker, Payne Walker, Grayson Danner, Adeline Danner, Rhett Moffitt, and Cole Moffitt. He will also be greatly missed by his sisters Ann Moffitt Cross and Hermie Moffitt Moore. Mr. Moffitt was preceded in death by his sons Keith Edward Moffitt and Steve Allen Moffitt (Teresa), his grandson Sean Larry Moffitt, his two brothers Kyle Moffitt and Clyde Moffitt, and four sisters Dora Moffitt Hatcher, Kathleen Moffitt Martin, Lee Earl Moffitt McBryde and Geneva Moffitt Mauney. Mr. Moffitt served in the United States Army at Fort Carson, Colorado. After he was discharged in 1953, he moved to Memphis, TN and worked for International Harvester for a brief time before obtaining his barber's license in 1954. He owned Summer Center Barber Shop for 23 years before retiring in 1991 and moving to Counce, TN where he enjoyed fishing and working in the yard. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing for many years. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and was always ready to share a story or joke. He loved the Lord and faithfully served him. He was a member of Macon Road Presbyterian Church in Memphis for many years and most recently Pickwick United Methodist Church. His love for God was evident by his life, his gentle spirit and warm smile. Anyone that knew "Bud" knew he was a loyal Tiger basketball fan. He began attending University of Memphis Tiger basketball games in 1953 and even drove back to the games after he retired. During his later years, he followed them regularly on TV. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until service time at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park East, 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mr. Moffitt to Pickwick United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 28, Pickwick Dam, TN 38365.
