John Robert Moore was born on May 1, 1936. His parents were James Oliver Moore and Lucy Eliza Hardin. He grew up on Galloway in Highland Heights and attended Treadwell School all twelve years. After graduation joined the U.S Marines and served four years as an Embassy Guard in Afghanistan and Cypress. His first employment was with Realty Investments where he was construction superintendent for single family housing and garden walk-up apartments. For the next few years, he was self employed, and custom built 18 homes. In 1969, he went to work for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with the U.S government beginning as a construction analyst. He won numerous outstanding awards moving up to Chief Inspector, Deputy Chief Architect, Multi family Inspector and Design Representative, and Lead Construction Analyst for single family construction. He retired in 1994 at the age of 58, and he and his wife, Beverly, traveled extensively for the next 23 years. He loved woodworking and built their lovely home himself on two beautiful acres of land. He was quite creative and built everything from rocking horses for the grands to furniture. He was happiest when he was in his wood shop or on the golf course. He played golf almost every day for 20 years. He said he saved the weekends for people who worked! He volunteered as a St. Jude Golf Tournament Marshal on the #10 hole for 10 years. He was a member of Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was an elder.
