Obituary

John Arthur Winsler, 100, passed away on January 2, 2019 in Humboldt, TN in the State Veterans Home, where he was the first resident Centurion and was awarded "The John Arthur Winsler Day', honoring his birthday of February 5, 1918, receiving a letter of commendation signed by President and Mrs. Donald Trump.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cora Lunsford Winsler; and his son, John Arthur  "Art ' Winsler, III.  He was a member of Highland Heights Methodist Church, and a very proud Marine World War II veteran who served in the Second Marine Division in Guadalcanal.  He was the owner of Winsler Hardware Store for 40 years in Memphis.  He was a member of N.E. Memphis Lions Club, a Mason and Master Boy Scout Leader.  Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Benita Watkins (Rudy) of Rossville, TN; daughter-in-law, Mary Frances Winsler of Bartlett; niece, Jackie Wood Duncan (Keith) of Big Canoe, GA; and sister, Bettye Pat Pallesen of Iowa.  Mr. Winsler was blessed with two grandchildren, Lisa Turner and Jay Winsler; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Meghan Turner.  Visitation with his family will be on Monday, January 7, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 pm, with his funeral service following with distinguished military honors at 2:00 pm at Forest Fill Funeral Home, East. 901-382-1000
