Joseph F. "Joe" Lindenfeld, 71, passed away September 20, 2013 in Memphis after a long battle with cancer. The son of Dr. Erwin and Pauline Weiner Lindenfeld of Syracuse, NY, Joe is survived by his loving wife Kay, his sister Ruthie Kozower (husband Dr. Michael Kozower), nephew Max Kozower (wife Dr. Jane Guttenberg) and their children Maddy and Ethan, niece Claire Kozower (husband Charlie Knoble), nephew Dr. Benjamin Kozower (wife Nikki Fedoravicius) and their children Eli and Zachary, niece Dr. Rachael Mepani (husband Dr. Jay Mepani) and their children Lucus, Neil and Sonia. Joe completed his BA at Boston University, his MLS at Columbia Library School in NYC, and his MA in American Civilization from the University of Pennsylvania. Joe also earned his AA in Graphic Design from State Tech (now Southwest Tennessee Community College). Prior to his most recent job as Marketing Communications Specialist at UT Medical Group, Joe worked as a librarian, first at the Free Library of Philadelphia and then he served many happy years as the Director of the then-Shelby State Community College Library. Joe eventually retired as the Computer Project Librarian from the Memphis Public Library before joining the staff at UT Medical Group. Joe was the author of many articles and publications and served on many committees of the American Library Association. He read extensively and collected works of fantasy and books by John Steinbeck. Joe was often asked to give talks on Steinbeck. He loved classical music, good food, fine art, live theater as well as movies of all types. Joe''s love of travel was legendary. He traveled to Peru, Australia, Canada, and to China. He went to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, to Singapore and to Japan. He spent two years in the US Army stationed in Korea from 1967-68. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Midtown. Joe''s body has been donated to science.
