Joseph William Schmittou, Jr., age 66, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026.

Born on January 29, 1960, Joseph was the son of Joseph William Schmittou Sr and Annice Etheleen Schmittou. He spent his life as a devoted father, family man, and friend, known by those close to him for his kindness, determination, and helpfulness.

Joseph was a man of many passions. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting, and westerns, and he took great pride in his time with the City of Memphis. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family and sharing his love for the outdoors.

He is survived by his loving family, including his children Joseph William Schmittou III (Tugce Schmittou) and Jill Elisabeth Schmittou Skinner (Christopher Skinner), as well as his grandchildren Joseph William Schmittou IV and Nolan Skinner; and a community of extended family and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William Schmittou Sr and Annice Etheleen Schmittou, his wife Susan Jill Schmittou, and sister Marsha Morris.

Family and friends are invited to attend his services. A visitation and memorial service will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park - East, located at 2440 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. June 22, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with the service immediately following at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joseph’s memory to St Jude.
