Joseph Edward Sturdivant, age 88, of Somerville, TN, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East in Memphis, TN.
Visitation will be 1:00 pm Tuesday August 1, 2017 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday August 1, 2017 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home 2440 Whitten Rd, Memphis, TN 38133. Burial will follow at Forest Hill East Cemetery.
Joseph was born in Dyer County, TN to Jimmy and Ora (Cagle) Sturdivant on April 11, 1929. He married Martha (Wright) on November 12, 1948 and they were blessed with two children. He was a longtime faithful member of Feathers Chapel Baptist Church. He retired after working for 32 years at Union Carbide in Memphis, TN. He was a hardworking and loving family man. He was an avid gardener who loved to share the fruits of his labor with friends and family.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents Jimmy and Ora Sturdivant, brothers B.F. Sturdivant, Melvin Sturdivant and Oliver Sturdivant, beloved daughter Jinny (Sturdivant) Hubbard and great-granddaughter Marilyn Clark.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Martha (Wright) Sturdivant, son Jerry Sturdivant (Lisa), sister Imogene (Sturdivant) King, grandchildren Jessica Lentz (Jerry), Jeremy Sturdivant (Savannah), Jill Schneider (Joe), Jason Hubbard (Ashlie), and great-Grandchildren Dora Sturdivant, Rachel Sturdivant, Erin Palmer, Austin Hubbard, Tyler Hubbard and Emma Hubbard.
Pallbearers will be Austin Hubbard, Tyler Hubbard, Wes Harville, Shaw Zada, Charlie Pardue and Rob Wagner. Honorary pallbearers are Sam Wolf, Les Hamilton and Bubba Bobbitt.
