Josephine "Jo" Barkley, 86, of Southaven, MS passed away on April 27, 2022.
Born in Chicago, IL on July 16, 1935, Jo was proud to be the first generation of her family born in the United States after her parents, Patrick and Mary McGoldrick emigrated from Ireland in the early 1930's. During her working career she was employed with Gordon's Transports in Memphis, TN from 1964 until 1982. In 2002 Jo retired from FISCO in Memphis, TN after working as their bookkeeper for over 20 years.
Among her many hobbies, Jo loved to read, going camping with her family, square-dancing with her husband Smitty, and traveling with friends. She was also a member of the Southaven Chapter of the Red Hat Society.
Jo was a Christian and a member of Southaven Church of Christ for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Smitty" Smith; her son, Butch Barkley; two sisters, Mary McGoldrick and Kay Kingsbury; two brothers, Jim and John McGoldrick; two grandsons, Charlie Baldwin, Jr. and Timothy Clay Barkley and one grand-daughter Katie Jo Johnson.
Jo is survived by four daughters, Mary Baldwin (Charlie) of Hernando, MS, Shawn Cheshier (Randy) of Hernando, MS, Joey Dylla (Richard) of San Antonio, TX, Lili Hare (Benny) of Forest, MS, one son, Richard Barkley of Phoenix, AZ and daughter in-law Brenda Barkley of Bartlett, TN; one sister, Pat Albrecht of Chicago, IL; beloved grandchildren Christy Gahagan, Miranda Cheshier, Rick Barkley, Stacy Winsett, Jennifer Howard, Joseph Jenni, Joshua Jenni, John Jenni, Sharon Jenni-Harrison, Mitchell Boland and Jessica Gereau, along with 22 great-grandchildren. Jo is also survived by her cherished 5 nieces and 3 nephews, along with many extended family members, long-time friends, and constant canine companion, Sugar.
