Joyce Elizabeth Davis McCollum died peacefully in her sleep at Methodist Hospital in Olive Branch, MS on August 4, 2023, at the age of
78.
Joy is survived by two daughters: Angel Richard Stafford (Mark)of Olive Branch, MS and Debbie Sparks Castro (Anthony) of DeBary, FL; two
brothers: Cecil Jeffry Davis of Smyrna, TN and Mark Davis (Lynn) of Murfreesboro, TN. She leaves 5 grandchildren: Lacey Richard Gurley
(Brent) of Olive Branch, MS, Tabitha Hahn Demarey (Rich) of Sun City West, AZ, Andrea Hahn Emmanuelli (John Paul) of Gilbert, AZ, Benjamin Stafford (Wendy) of Robinsonville, MS and Gabriella Stafford-Butler (Adam) of Olive Branch, MS. She leaves 11 great-grandchildren and number 12 is on the way, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 20 years, Billy Julius McCollum, her brother, Clint Davis, her sister Mary Frances Davis Steward, her sister Alma Louise Young, and her sister-in-law, Letitia Marie Davis.
Joy was born June 27, 1945, to Verbal Clinton Davis Sr. and Opal Fisher Davis in Memphis, TN.
Throughout her life, she worked as a CNA taking care of others. She also worked along-side her husband and son-in-law in ministry for many years. Most recently she attended The Summit Church in Hernando, MS.
Joy loved Jesus with all she had in her, and she loved her girls. She left a note in her final effects saying, "I love my girls, Angel & Debbie with the last breath in my body." Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and brought her exceeding joy. She also left a note for her BFF, Peggy Stafford Jeffries stating, "One day I may die without saying good-bye to you. But I will never forget to say Thank You. You really have been a blessing to me."
She loved the color green, dancing, reading, crafting, shopping, yellow roses, white daisies, baby dolls, small dogs, and jewelry/bling.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, 8/9/23 from 5-7 pm and Thursday 8/10/23 from 1-2 pm. Funeral will be Thursday 8/10/23 at 2 pm at Forest Hill East in Memphis, TN. Rev. Virgil Ezekiel will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joy's life.
