JOYCE ANN MANNER PATTERSON

August 1, 1928 – January 25, 2018

Joyce Ann Manner Patterson, 89, passed away on January 25, 2018 in Birmingham, AL. She was born on August 1, 1928 in Milan, TN, the only child to Christian and Pauline McCoy Manner. After high school, Joyce attended Memphis State University where she met the love of her life, Arlin (Pat) Patterson, Jr.  After their marriage, she worked as a secretary until their children, Linda Patterson Crowell and Marcia Patterson Crouch were born. Joyce loved being a wife and mother and excelled at both, involving herself in her husband's business and her children's school. Joyce was a longtime member of Colonial Park United Methodist Church and was very involved with their Sunday school class. She sang in the church choir for many years and played the piano beautifully, often accompanying the hymns in her Sunday school class.

Joyce and Pat Patterson were looking forward to celebrating their 70 ^th wedding anniversary on April 25, 2018. They both enjoyed traveling and proudly displayed a map showing their extensive destinations. Joyce enjoyed gardening, reading, and she and Pat even built a log cabin on a lake to share with their growing family. She was an excellent cook and was even featured in the newspaper for several of her recipes. Their church friends were so important to them and they missed them greatly when they move to Brownsboro, AL to be nearer their daughter, Marcia.

She loved and cherished her five grandsons and celebrated their selection of their wives when each married. These unions have produced 10 great grandchildren (5 boys and 5 girls). Joyce was one who changed with the times and could be seen supporting her grandsons' at sporting events, and more recently FaceTiming with her great grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her husband , Arlin (Pat) Patterson of Brownsboro, AL; her daughters, Linda (Cal) Crowell of Daphne, AL, and Marcia (Steve) Crouch of Owens Cross Road, AL]; her grandchildren, Jeremy (Jaimyn) Taylor, Justin (Natalie) Taylor, Christopher(Susan) Taylor, Nick(Ashley) Crouch, Brett(Brittany) Crouch]; her great-grandchildren Alexandra Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Bria Taylor, Jake Taylor, Aiden Taylor, Kaitlyn Crouch, Jase Crouch, Presley Crouch, Bennett Crouch, and Parker Crouch, and many other relatives.

Her funeral service will be held at Forest Hill Funeral Home, 2440 Whitten Road, at 10:00am Monday, January 29. A visitation with her many family and friends will be held 3 – 6pm Sunday, January 28 at Forest Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Forest Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Parkinson's Foundation or the charity of choice.
