Julia Estelle Burnett Latham, 90, of Oakland, TN, passed away at home on February 7, 2016. She was born September 7, 1925, in Memphis, TN to Albert John Burnett, Sr.(1904) and Myrtis Lee Vallery Burnett(1905). Julia was the second of six children. Julia was born during the Roaring 20s, lived through the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. She saw a man walk on the moon, the creation of the internet, computers, cell phones, and television .
During WWII Julia was a riveter on airplanes. Later she worked at the Air Force Base in Memphis, Sears and U.T. at Memphis. She loved fishing and camping and going to casinos and to lunch with her sisters. In her later years, when she became bedridden, she became a voracious reader. On March 18, 1946, she married the love of her life, Herbert Latham, Jr.(1924) and they were married until his death from complications of Alzheimer's in 2007. Julia and Herbert had one son, James (Jimmy) H. Latham, born in 1947. Julia was preceded by her parents; her brothers, Albert John Burnett, Jr (Jo); Ronald Dean Burnett; two sisters, Alberta Compton(Bill) and Doris Mills(Stanley). Julia is survived by her son, Jimmy, his wife, Brenda; two grandchildren, Tim S. Latham(Lisa) and Sabrina Renee Jones; six great-grandchildren, Kyle Latham, Chelsea Blalock, Faith Blalock, Kenzi Jones, Sydney Bell and Zach Bell; and one great-great-grandchild, Bentley Bistolfi and one sister, Jean Oberle. The family would like to thank the nice people from Amedisys Hospice Care in the final weeks of Julia's life, especially Sharon and Joy. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, at Forest Hill Funeral Home, Midtown, 1661 S. Elvis Presley Blvd.
