Julia "Evelyn" Childers 1920 – 2025

Julia "Evelyn" Childers, age 104, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on July 17, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted woman of faith, Evelyn lived a long and beautiful life filled with grace, purpose, and unwavering love for her family and her Lord.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Willie "Joe" Childers. She is survived by her son, William "Larry" Newby; her grandchildren Bryant "Keith" Newby, Jodi Van Wagner, and Candice Guthery; and her great-grandchildren Taylor Jordan, Bryant Newby, Kyra Newby, Cynthia Ballard, and Alisa Glass. She is also remembered fondly by several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A founding member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi, Evelyn's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her devotion to God and to her church family left a lasting impact on countless lives. She had a gentle strength and a heart full of compassion—always ready with a warm hug, a kind word, and a prayer for anyone in need.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, July 25th, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 7423 Craft Rd, Olive Branch, MS 38654, with a celebration of her life to follow at 1:00 PM. Graveside services will be held immediately afterward at Forrest Hill Memorial Park South, 2545 E Holmes Rd, Memphis, TN 38118.

Flowers are welcome, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Immanuel Baptist Church.

Evelyn's legacy of faith, kindness, and love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be a blessing.
