June T. Thweatt, 96, died unexpectedly January 22, 2013, at Germantown Methodist Hospital. Born in Mathiston, Mississippi, to Solomon Joseph and Altha Dell Thornton, she graduated from Bennett Academy in Mathiston before moving to Darling, Mississippi, where she worked in the post office. There she met Leland Wayne Thweatt, her future husband, who preceded her in death in 1992. After their marriage, they moved to Memphis, where Mrs. Thweatt worked at National Biscuit Company and then for Memphis City Schools as a cafeteria manager at Bruce, Lauderdale, Sherwood, Sharpe, and Lanier schools. In 1978 she retired from MCS to be a caregiver for first her mother and then her husband. In 1995 she moved to Southaven where she lived until 2006 when health issues necessitated a move to Emeritus at Cordova, an assisted living facility. She was a long-time member of Longstreet United Methodist Church and served for a number of years as treasurer of the Ward Memorial Chapel of the Church of the Good Shepherd. Although most of her peers preceded her in death, she was blessed to have a caring staff at Emeritus and special caregivers: Catherine Cole, Susan Hockman, Barbara Ward, and DiAnne Dunn. Mrs. Thweatt is survived by and dearly loved by her son, Joseph Wayne (Marilyn); grandson Robert Manning (Billie), and great-grandsons, Adam Alexander and Levi Patrick. Visitation will be at Forest Hill East, 2440 Whitten Road, Bartlett, on Saturday, January 26, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral to follow immediately. Private entombment will be at Forest Hill South.
