KELLAH MURRAY ALLGOOD, 84, passed away on September 8, 2013. Born July 8, 1929 in Beech Island, SC, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Galphin and Kellah Walker Murray. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Charles Henry Allgood. She attended college at Queens College in Charlotte, NC and lived her early married years in Athens, GA and Marion, AL before settling in Memphis, TN where her husband joined the Memphis State University Faculty in 1956. She is preceded in death by her siblings Galphin Murray (Ina), North Augusta, SC; Lib Glenn (Jim), Asheville, NC; Estelle Mauldin (Bill), Greenwood, SC and Walker Murray (Rosa) Greenville, SC. Kellah, Mama, Mimi is survived by her loving children, daughters Kay Olita (Steve), Memphis, TN and Alice Trottman (Lanny), Germantown, TN and son Charles Allgood (Gay) of Cordova, TN. Mimi''s nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. Grandchildren include April Murphy (Rick), Collierville, TN; Alison Denley (Daniel), San Diego, CA; Steve Olita (Shanna), Memphis, TN; Justin Olita (Melissa) Collierville, TN; Nicholas Trottman (Jennifer) Germantown, TN; Lane Trottman of Memphis, TN; Amy Ledbetter (Byron) from Lakeland, TN and Andrew Allgood of Cordova, TN. Mimi''s granddaughter, Kellah Trottman preceded her to heaven. Her great-grandchildren include Clay, Ben, Julianne, and Miranda Murphy; Alex, Paul, Gabriel, Cecilia, Sophia, Marcella, and Philomena Denley; Isabella, Mia, Lucca, and Jude Olita and Rett and Kellah Nora Trottman. She also leaves many favorite nieces and nephews: Jimmy Glenn, Betsy Biggers, Sarah Blackmon, Furman Mauldin, Kellah Hult, Milledge Murray, Anne Barton, Carol Nichols, Clare Phinney, Lisa Robarbs, and David (Carol) Bateman. Kellah Allgood was a loving, gracious, extraordinary "Southern lady" adored by all who knew her. She possessed the God given gifts of beauty, hospitality, charity, love and service. She was an indescribable light in the world and "lit up" every place that she entered with her charm, grace and humor. She brought joy, comfort, and laughter into the lives of everyone she touched. Her compassion and love for everyone were a testament to her deep and abiding faith in her Lord and Savior. Kellah Allgood''s loves were her husband "Charlie", her family, her church and her dear friends. First and foremost Mama/Mimi loved, cherished and nurtured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent her entire life encouraging and enriching the lives of "little ones". She was an active member of Buntyn Presbyterian Church for 60 years and served in every way she could, as an Elder, President of Presbyterian Women, Circle leader, Sunday School teacher, Church Nursery helper, and chairman of the Chicken Casserole Committee. Her vibrant personality and contagious smile endeared her to everyone. She never knew a stranger and always welcomed and brought out the best in everyone she met. Kellah was an avid bridge player and loved to read and travel. She was a devoted wife to her dear Charlie and contributed to his success by supporting him in every aspect of his longtime career as Professor of Art at then Memphis State University. She was a longtime member of the Memphis State Faculty Wives Club and planned and hostessed all of the receptions for the art exhibits at Jones Hall for many years. She was a member of Colonial Dames, and the DAR, Beech Island Historical Society, Queens College Alumnae Association, and Phi Mu Sorority. She loved Christmas, Birthdays, Easter eggs, rocking babies, theater, lemon in her tea, playing cards, and spending time with those she loved. Her legacy of charm, love, humor, and caring for others will always be remembered. She was a shining star in this world. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, September 11 at Buntyn Presbyterian Church with services to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill East Cemetery. The family requests any memorials be made to Buntyn Presbyterian Church.
