Obituary

Kenneth Alan Hayes of Memphis, Tennessee passed away May 27, 2022 from cancer at the age of 65. He was born August 14, 1956 in Memphis, TN, the first born son of Floyd and Carolyn Hayes. Alan was a talented artist whose creativity resulted in many wonderful projects. He was part of several local bands over the span of his life for which he played synthesizer/keyboard. Most notably, he was part of the band Calculated X along with his friends, the late Bobby Bowie, the late Chuck Spencer, Kye Kennedy, and David Umsted. They produced one album and cemented their place in Memphis music history. Alan went on to open his own recording studio in 1986 where he helped many local artists bring their vision to life. He was passionate about supporting local artists and businesses and was involved with his local neighborhood association and assisted in restoring the old Sears building that is now the Crosstown Concourse. Alan most enjoyed making and listening to good music, spending time with his family, and going on bike rides with his friends. He was preceded in death by his father Floyd Hayes. He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Hayes; three brothers, Paul (Debby) Hayes, Grant (Laura) Hayes, and Daniel Hayes; his wife, Rebekah Hayes; three daughters, Serena (Nathan) Diehm, Ayden Hayes, and Layna Hayes; and four grandchildren, Lydia Diehm, Madelyn Diehm, Harrison Diehm, and Nathan Diehm, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved him very much. He left behind a legacy of music and art that will live eternally. A celebration of life service will be held, details to be determined.
