Lawrence Edward Goodwin's Obituary
Mr. Goodwin was born on May 3, 1946 in Memphis Tennessee to the late Pete and Loraine Haynie Goodwin.
Other then his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter; Tracy Marie Goodwin
He is survived by his wife Cathy Goodwin of 47 years, his daughter Kelly Fyfe and Son, Kenny Goodwin, his grandchildren Abigail Goodwin, Houston Fyfe, and Hailey Goodwin.
Upon passing from this world Lawrence Goodwin, or Larry to all that knew and respected him, left behind not only a life but a legacy. After serving his country in Vietnam, he continued to follow his passion in the service of others by going into law enforcement. Starting as a patrolman his hard work and dedication drove him up the ranks to include the title of Commander of the Organized Crime Vice Division and Commander of the West Precinct Patrol Division with the Memphis Police Department. He then retired from the MPD only to begin as the police chief of Collierville where he proudly served for and additional 19 years. Complications from beating throat cancer forced him to focus on himself for a change causing him to retire once again. Anyone who knew him knew of his affinity for cars and motorcycles which led him to begin the Collierville Police Department Annual Car Show that has raised over $100,000 for the Collierville Education Foundation. The world has experienced a great tragedy in the loss of Larry and he is surely going to be missed. And as Police Chief Larry Goodwin would say "We want you to be safe! And remember, buckle up! It's the law too!" God Bless!
Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence E Goodwin, 75 of Collierville will be conducted on September 2nd 2021 @ 2:00pm at Central Church of Collierville, 2005 E. Winchester Blvd, Collierville TN 38017.
