Oakland - Lawrence Bland "Larry" Jeffries, 70, of Oakland went home to be with the Lord March 29, 2012, at Baptist Trinity Hospice House in Collierville. Larry was a retired Communications Specialist for the Department of Defense, and was a former Detective for the Memphis Police Department. He was a member of Ellendale Baptist Church, a Mason, a reserve officer for Oakland Police Department, and an avid animal lover. He was preceded in death by a daughter Lenita Beth Jeffries. He leaves his wife Joyce; two sons, Lawrence Bland "Trey" Jeffries III, of Bartlett, Billy Joe Jeffries, of Arlington, TN; one daughter, Lesley Jeffries Gallagher, of Arlington, TN; one sister, Jean Price, of Bartlett; one brother-in-law, Dewey Price, of Bartlett; three grandsons, Brandon Wade Jeffries, Thomas Blake Jeffries, Jack Robert Jeffries; one granddaughter, Morgan Jeffries Jones; and one great-grandson, Xander Graham Jones. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Funeral Home East with interment to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery East. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Memphis Humane Society.
