Leland Pearson Cardwell, Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully at his home on November 12, 2022 in Destin, Florida. He was born February 4, 1938 in Memphis, Tennessee. Leland was known as "Lee" or "Dickey" to his family and friends. He was married to the love of his life, Jan, for 62 years until her death last December.

After graduating from East High School in Memphis, Lee enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during Vietnam. He met Jan in Washington, D.C. at the State Department. After they married, they soon moved to Memphis and had three children. Lee enjoyed a distinguished career as a bank president and later as an entrepreneur of a financial management company until his recent retirement. For many years, Jan and Lee enjoyed spending time in Destin and eventually decided to make it their permanent residence.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents Leland and Margaret Addington Cardwell; his wife Jan; sons Bret and Kirk; and his brother Dennis Cardwell. He leaves behind his son Bart of Charleston, South Carolina; his grandson John Cardwell (Kristi) of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; his two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Pearson Cardwell; his sister Nell Gholson of Water Valley, Mississippi; and his sister-in-law Gerri Cardwell of Southaven, Mississippi.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held Monday November 21, 2022 in the Chapel of New Hope Christian Church, 3300 Kirby Whitten Road, Bartlett, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with the memorial service immediately following.
