IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linda Carol
Akins
June 13, 1953 – September 24, 2024
Linda Carol Akins, 71, of Saulsbury, TN, peacefully passed away on September 24, 2024, at Christian Care Center in Bolivar, TN, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 13, 1953, Linda grew up in Memphis and Whitehaven until 2000, when she moved to Candlewood Lakes in Saulsbury, TN. She retired from FedEx as a PICC Agent and later from medical billing for CRNA.
Linda was deeply involved in her community at Candlewood, where she assisted those in need, participated in cleanup efforts, served on the Security Team, and contributed to numerous functions at the clubhouse, famously bringing the best coleslaw for all to enjoy. She had a passion for travel, particularly RV trips with her partner Marjorie, and preferred outdoor activities over house cleaning, often seen on her tractor or lawn mower, or in the woods. Sundays were special to her as she played Scrabble with her friend David.
In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed playing games like Words With Friends and pool on her phone. She loved spending time with family and friends and watching deer, hummingbirds, foxes, and whatever critters happened to come by from her porch.
At home, you would usually find her watching crime shows with her cat, Shadow, on her lap and her dog, Sophie, on her feet, with a chocolate bar close by while she read multiple books. Weekly trips to the library brought her joy, and visits from friends and family, especially her nephew Ethan, filled her heart. She had a smile that would light up any room, and you knew when she laughed that either you had said something really funny or not! Linda's unforgettable spirit, vibrant personality, and her memory will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
She is survived by her brothers, Terry Akins (Pam) of Lakeland, TN, and David Akins (Judy) of Fishers, IN; her sisters, Cathy McHenry of Earle, AR, and Denisce Paine of Memphis, TN; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Linda is preceded in death by her father, G.W. Akins; her mother, Jean Jenkins; her uncle and aunt who raised her, Oscar and Lois Shaw; her partner of 37 years, Marjorie Ellard; and her brother, Leroy Newton.
Linda Carol Akins will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
