Marjorie Louise Hendrix Thomas, age 85, wife of the late Roy Lee Thomas of Bartlett, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House.

Louise was born December 9, 1937, in Panola County, Mississippi to the late Howard Roy and Marjorie Oliphant Hendrix. She was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church. Louise graduated from Mississippi State College for women in 1959 with a B.S. in Business Education and later from the University of Mississippi with a M.B.E. in Business Education. She also did post graduate study at the University of Memphis and the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught school full time for 49 years beginning in Lexington, Mississippi, followed by Yazoo City High School in Yazoo City, Mississippi, Phillips County Community College in Helena, Arkansas, and then in Shelby County, Tennessee, at Frayser Baptist Schools, SkyView Academy, and First Assembly Christian School. She taught night school in the Memphis City Schools for 14 years. After retiring, she substituted at First Assembly Christian School for 6 years.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roy Lee Thomas. She is survived by her daughter, Tracey Thomas Mewborn and her husband, Jared Mewborn, and two granddaughters, Madison Elizabeth Mewborn and Hailey Grace Mewborn of Germantown, Tennessee. Also, she is survived by two brothers, Howard Hendrix, Jr. (Gloria), and Tommy Hendrix (Martha Sue) of Batesville, Mississippi, and Sandy Hendrix of Ovett, Mississippi, wife of the late brother, Randy Hendrix.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Forest Hill Funeral Home on Whitten Rd in Memphis from 1pm – 2pm followed by the service at 2pm.
