Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery
3:30 - 4:30 pm (Central time)
Luther Gant Sartain, Jr. (“Buddy”), 93, a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a beloved Christian husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2026. He was born November 2, 1932, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Luther Gant Sartain, Sr., and Mary O. Sartain.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Claryece Herriman Sartain, whom he lovingly cared for during a lengthy illness; and by his siblings June Sartain, Marilyn Chambliss, Charles Davis, Betty Jones, Rufus Davis, and Wilward Sartain.
He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Sartain Bouldin (Harold E. Bouldin, Jr.) and Gail Sartain Jones; four grandchildren, Harold Eugene Bouldin III (Hal) (Sarah), Christopher Gant Bouldin (Katie), Tori McDowell (partner Levi Morales), and Wes McDowell; and one great-grandson, Bret Wilder Bouldin, son of Hal and Sarah Bouldin.
Buddy led an exemplary Christian life. He was ordained a Deacon on August 22, 1971, at Whitehaven Baptist Church. He lived quietly and humbly putting the needs of others first. He spent countless hours in Bible study and prayer. He was the prayer warrior for his family, and he lived the gospel of Jesus on a daily basis. Well done, thou good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).
Buddy spent his career in the transportation industry, beginning as a truck driver for Sartain Truck Lines and retiring as a Senior Traffic Analyst with Federal Express. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his caregivers at Baptist Hospital East, Memphis Jewish Home, and Crossroads Hospice.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 3:30pm at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Church, Memphis Jewish Home, or the charity of your choice.
