Margaret Ann Bland, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 29, 2012. Born on September 4, 1929 in Memphis, she was the daughter of George A. Bland, Sr. and Katherine Wadley Bland. After graduating from St. Agnes Academy, Margaret was a retired employee of Weil Brothers Cotton where she worked for 45 years. She was one of the first women to hold the position of traffic manager. Margaret was a communicant of St. Louis Catholic Church and volunteered at the Church Health Center. She was affectionately known as the "Can Lady" of SRVS for her tireless effort of collecting cans to raise money for SRVS. Margaret will be remembered as a loving family member and a staunchly independent woman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Elizabeth Gowen, her brother, Dr. George (Bubba) Bland, Jr. and her brothers-in law, Joe Barzizza, Sr. and John McIntosh. She leaves her sisters, Jane McIntosh and Katherine (Kitty) Barzizza, sister-in-law, Ginevra (Gee Gee) Bland, brother-in-law, Sonny Gowen, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St. Louis Catholic Church beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Church Health Center (1210 Peabody Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104 or online at (www.churchhealthcenter.org), or to SRVS (3971 Knight Arnold Rd., Memphis, TN 38118 or on-line at www.srvs.org.
