Maryville - Margaret Powers Cummings, age 93 of Maryville formerly of Memphis, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013. She was a former member of First Evangelical Church and Union Avenue Baptist Church. Margaret was a wonderful singer singing with the Memphis Opera and local churches. She was retired from the Shelby County Health Department. Preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Lawrence Powers and Henry McDaniel Cummings; daughter, Caroline Gibbons, and son, Richard L. Powers, Jr.; parents, Dr. Morgan and Maggie Young; brother, Bobby Young; sisters, Sydney Cason and Addie Ewing. She is survived by her children: Penny Lindsey and husband, Nash of Fayetteville, NC, Margaret Aswad and husband, Patrick of Maryville, Morgan Powers and wife, Brenda of Memphis; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Velma Burke (P.A.), along with the doctors, nurses and staff at Asbury Place for their care and support. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 14th at Forest Hill Midtown Cemetery in Memphis.
