Obituary

Margot Lautenbach Maxey, age 87, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away at home on May 19, 2024. Margot was born on January 18, 1937, in Lauffen am Neckar, Germany.

Margot was a remarkable woman known for her unwavering patriotism and strength. Surviving World War II as a young child, she later met an American soldier who stole her heart. They were married in 1965 in Williamsburg, VA, and settled in Memphis, TN, where they raised their two daughters, Debra and Sandra.

In her earlier years, Margot attended Hindenburgschule in Lauffen am Neckar, Germany, and later earned a Graduates and a Bachelors degree in Berufsschule Heilbronn, Germany. She devoted her time to being a loving stay-at-home mom until her daughters were older, after which she worked as a Teller at Union Planters Bank.

Margot will be deeply missed by her daughters, Debra Evans (AJ) and Sandra Crimmins (Eric), her granddaughter Jazmin Taylor (Jeff), great-grandsons Brayden and Nick Taylor great-granddaughter Tobi Taylor, and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Barney Maxey, and granddaughter, Ashleigh Rene' Hogman.

Margot found solace in her faith and was a member of Still Waters Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily and making sure she had the whole Bible read yearly, every year. She also found joy in watching hummingbirds and butterflies on her patio.
