February 25, 1916 – April 5, 2024
Marguerite (Rite) Baird Miller Waltrip of Memphis, Tennessee departed from this life and entered into glorious presence of Jesus Christ on Friday morning, the 5th of April, 2023. She was 108 years young.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the middle child of 9 born to Rice Cleveland Baird and Laurie Ethel Baird, both deceased. She leaves daughters Laurie Kathryn (Kay) Miller-Segers (Gerald David Sr. deceased) of Tallahassee, Florida, June Miller-Pyle (William Horace Pyle, deceased 2004) of Brighton, Tennessee and Jane Miller-Gary, Memphis, Tennessee. She also leaves 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 11 great great grand children. She was predeceased by her siblings, Lucille Whittington Marion Baird, Robert Baird, Ellen Coolican, William
(Bill) Baird, Mary Lois (Dink) Clark Ailene Clark and a brother at birth; first and LeRoy Miller (1958), second husband Wayne Phillips Waltrip (1991) son Donald Miller (1999) and second Grandchild Walter Donald Miller (2012), and a granddaughter Sandra "Sandy" Miller Coleman (2022).
Mrs. Waltrip was a graduate of Whitehaven High School and retired from Lowensteins Department Store in 1982 after 26 years. She was a voracious reader and worked crossword puzzles daily. She was an active member of First Assembly of God on Walnut Grove Road until her health declined and she could no longer drive. Her Sunday worship was Bellevue Baptist Church and Adrian Rogers "Love Worth Finding" via television. She loved to sew and quilt and made beautiful quilts for each of her children as well as making most of their clothes.
The homegoing service will be held at 2:00pm. on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Forest Hill East Funeral Home on Whitten Road. There will be visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 P.M, followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. and private burial will follow at Forest Hill Midtown. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Love Worth Finding, Bellevue Baptist Church Music Ministry or Samaritan's Purse.
