On Thursday, July 2, Heaven's gates hosted a "welcome home" party as Jesus and His heavenly host welcomed our precious Mom, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother, Marjorie Anne Johnson-Rushing, into the Everlasting Arms of the One she always loved with an undivided passion that we never saw waver, not even once. Generations of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and those who come after them will rise up and call her "blessed."
Marjorie was born in Suwanee, Tennessee to Francis Clark and Marjorie Viola McDuffie-Johnson. She married Floyd "Red" Rushing in Osceola, Arkansas on September 6, 1949 and they celebrated their 61 st anniversary before Floyd went Heaven in October of 2010. Floyd and Marjorie had three children, Freddie, Johnny and Teresa Diane.
Marjorie spent many years in the greater Memphis area very involved in five wonderful churches: Hartland Heights Baptist Church and Thrifthaven Baptist Church in Memphis; Bethel Baptist Church in Whitehaven; First Baptist Church of Parsons, TN; Broadway Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS; and the last several years at Longview Heights Baptist Church in Olive Branch, MS.
Marjorie is survived by her three children : Fred and wife, Kim; John and wife, Wanda; and Teresa Diane and son-in-law, Mike Newton; nine grandchildren : Shane Rushing and wife, Rae-lyn Timothy Neil Rushing and wife, Karen; Kacie Bingham, Shelby Rushing-Jaggers and husband, Daniel; Kaylea Rushing-Ryan and husband Jason; Amanda Rushing-Gully and husband, Adam; Michael Rushing, Jaime Tidwell, Kevin Newton and wife, Brandi; 14 great grandchildren : Bentley Rushing-Taylor and husband, Nick; Hope Rushing, Waylon Rushing, Jaylan Rushing, Manny Rushing, Spencer Rushing, Castle Gully, Liesl Gully, Titan Rushing, Jordan Tidwell, Jackson Tidwell, Jacob Hewgley; Magnolia Newton, Willow Newton; one great-great grandchild : Brinley Grace Taylor; one brother : Randy Johnson of Tennessee; t wo sisters : Sarah Fowler of North Carolina and Dorothy Swasey and husband, Jim of Inverness, Florida; many nieces, nephews, cousins, etc. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Frank and Jim Johnson), one half-sister (Rudene Smith-Middleton), and two half-brothers (Eugene and Mac Smith).
